4 Reasons To Be Thankful For Your Divorce

From a young age, we are taught to always look on the bright side of life — to find the silver lining in everything and be thankful for what we have, not what we’ve lost. But even the most optimistic person will tell you it is difficult to be thankful for everything. For example divorce. How could you ever be thankful for your divorce?

Divorce is a difficult time in a person’s life. Families are changed forever. Lives are turned upside down. The negative emotions are seemingly impossible to overcome. There simply doesn’t seem to be a lot of positives in that.

Challenge accepted. In this blog post, we’ve set out to give you four reasons to be thankful for your divorce.

You are no longer in a dangerous situation

Family violence is a real thing. These scary and life-threatening situations include everything from emotional abuse to grabbing and shoving, sexual abuse, and assault with a weapon. While the thought of starting over can be overwhelming, you should be thankful for your divorce if the result is that you have removed yourself and your children from a dangerous environment.

You have a chance to be happy

It may not seem possible now, but there will come a day when you are happy again. Think about all the days before your divorce where you’ve felt miserable, argued with your spouse for hours on end, and cried yourself to sleep. Think about all the time you lost dealing with things you had very little control over. Now that your divorce is behind you, go on vacation with your children, visit friends, and spend time with family.

You are now free to live life however you want

Living life alone can be lonely and sad. But to piggyback off the previous reason to be thankful for your divorce, this is your chance to go where you want, do what you want, and live life however you want. Maybe this is the chance you’ve been waiting for to go back to school, move to a different city, or even backpack across Italy. You aren’t beholden to the whims of your former spouse. Live free and happy.

This is a chance to create a better environment for the kids

Your children need their parents. There’s no mistaking that. But if your marriage was a difficult one, it’s likely that your kids were constantly stuck in the middle. Be thankful for the opportunity to create a better environment for them, one where they will be loved, respected, and will feel safe.
